As one of the many unique opportunities that the University of Ottawa Science Undergraduate Research Journal offers, the Mentorship Program is an incredible opportunity for those interested starting their own research journey, where mentees will be learn how to read and synthesize scientific literature, summarize your findings, make connections between ideas, and set a path for the future - all things that go into a good mini-review article.
SO HOW DOES IT WORK?
1-ON-1 Mentorship pairing
Students will be partnered 1-on-1 with an experienced graduate student mentor who will walk them through the process of writing a mini-review. Mentors will guide students on reading and interpreting scientific journals and the general process of writing a mini-review.
THE COURSE JOURNEY
Through bi-weekly, hour long 1-on-1 meetings, mentors will teach students about the process, help them set and keep research goals, and give suggestions and advice.
EVALUATION AND PRESENTATION
Students will also have the opportunity to present their work at the end of the year. While the ultimate goal is to finish writing the review, the course is evaluated on effort, and students will pass by meeting the goals that they set with their mentor.
